After being arrested for the crime of "being a member of the armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK" in Istanbul, Ahmet Özer, who was removed from his position as the Mayor of Esenyurt, made a statement on his social media account. Özer, who made his first statement after his arrest, said that he greeted those who were holding a "Democracy Vigil" in Esenyurt. "WE ARE RIGHT, WE WILL WIN"In his statement, Özer said, "It has been a month since I was arrested in a political operation and placed in Silivri Prison. Inside, I am trying to protect the will of the people with the awareness of the responsibility you have entrusted to me, not to let your valuable votes fall to the ground." He added, "You have been holding a 'Democracy Vigil' in Esenyurt Square for days. I find this effort very valuable and I salute your struggle with my deepest feelings." Özer also wrote, "History of struggle has shown us that no matter what happens, in the end, justice, law, and truth always prevail. We are right, we will win. And we will be together again, we will govern together." WHAT HAPPENED?Esnyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was taken into custody at his home in the early hours of October 30. In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crimes Investigation Bureau regarding the identification of the members and activities of the terrorist organization PKK/KCK, a detention order was issued for Özer. It was determined that he committed the alleged crime by establishing an organic connection with the organization's leaders through communication interception, physical surveillance records, bank account movements, and intense and continuous interactions. Özer was arrested by the court and removed from his position as the Mayor of Esenyurt.
