The 2024-2025 season of the Trendyol Super League has been named after Şamil Ekinci.

The Turkish Football Federation announced that the name of the legendary president of Trabzonspor, Şamil Ekinci, who recently passed away, has been given to the Trendyol Super League for this season. In a statement made on the federation's website, it was stated that the remaining weeks of the Super League for the 2024-25 season will be played as the "2024-2025 Trendyol Super League Şamil Ekinci Season."

THE SEASON IS NAMED AFTER ŞAMİL EKİNCİ

The TFF's statement regarding the matter is as follows;

"The Turkish Football Federation Board of Directors, in its evaluation, has decided that the remaining weeks of the Trendyol Super League will be played as the "2024-2025 Trendyol Super League Şamil Ekinci Season" as part of the practice of honoring football figures and former national players who have made unforgettable contributions to Turkish football.

Şamil Ekinci, who made valuable contributions to Turkish football, experienced the joy of 4 league championships, 2 Turkish Cups, 5 Presidential Cups, and 2 Prime Ministry Cups during his 5-season presidency at Trabzonspor.

We once again wish God's mercy upon the late Şamil Ekinci, and we extend our condolences to his family, relatives, loved ones, and the entire sports community, especially Trabzonspor."

WHO IS ŞAMİL EKİNCİ?

Mustafa Şamil Ekinci, originally from Kırşehir, was born on June 2, 1941. Ekinci completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Istanbul, and moved to Trabzon with his family due to their attempt to establish a factory there, continuing his business life for many years. Ekinci, who opened various commercial enterprises, is also known for his contributions to Trabzonspor.

Serving as the president of Trabzonspor between 1975 and 1980, Ekinci brought the club 4 league championships, 2 Turkish Cups, 5 Presidential Cups, and 2 Prime Ministry Cups during this period. Additionally, he served as the Chairman of the Divan Board between 1983 and 1985 and held the position of vice president under Faruk Özak's administration.

The museum showcasing Trabzonspor's historical achievements was named "Mustafa Şamil Ekinci" in 2011, which has been described as the greatest gift Ekinci received in his life. Known for his dedication to Trabzon and Trabzonspor, Ekinci continued to serve this city and club throughout his life.
