It has been revealed that the baby found dead on the train tracks in Adana two years ago was killed by its mother. The mother, who was found to have induced premature birth by consuming a stimulant substance, defended that the baby was stillborn. A trial has been opened against her with a demand for aggravated life imprisonment.
The lifeless body of a newborn baby found in a bag left by the train tracks in Adana was revealed to have been killed by her mother, H.M. (40). A lawsuit has been filed against the mother H.M. with a demand for aggravated life imprisonment.
GIVING BIRTH AT HOME AND LEAVING THE BABY BY THE TRACKS
On November 6, 2022, in Ray Street in Fevzipaşa Neighborhood of Seyhan district, passersby noticed a bag thrown by the train tracks and reported it to the police. The body of the newborn baby girl, who was found dead, was taken to the Adana Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The police examined the security camera footage in the area and identified H.M. as the mother of the baby. It was determined that H.M. gave birth at home, then wrapped her newborn baby in a cloth and placed her in the baby stroller with her 4-year-old daughter, and left her by the train tracks.
H.M., who was captured and arrested, has completed the investigation against her. The Public Prosecutor prepared an indictment against H.M. for the crime of "intentional killing of a child and close relative." After the examination conducted by the Adana 14th Heavy Penal Court, the prosecutor requested that the imprisoned mother H.M. be punished with aggravated life imprisonment.
CAUSE OF DEATH: BLUNT HEAD TRAUMA
The indictment includes forensic reports and the statement of the defendant mother. According to the report of the Ministry of Justice 1st Forensic Medicine Specialization Board, it was stated that the baby was born alive, "The findings obtained from the histopathological examination of the internal organs, the analysis of the tissue samples taken during the autopsy at the Chemistry Specialization Department, revealed the presence of painkillers, fever reducers, allergy treatment drugs, and stimulant substances in the baby's blood. Considering the environment where the body was found, the way it was found, and the findings of the crime scene investigation, it was determined that the baby, who was in the 33-34 weeks of intrauterine development, was born alive and had the ability to live, and the cause of death was determined to be blunt head trauma resulting in brain hemorrhage."
USED STIMULANT SUBSTANCE
The indictment stated that the mother H.M. used a stimulant substance to induce the birth of the baby, and emphasized that the baby's death did not occur due to a fall. In the evaluation section of the indictment, which stated that H.M. killed her baby with her hands after giving birth, the following was mentioned:
"It was determined that the baby, who was in the 33-34 weeks of intrauterine development, was born alive and had the ability to live, and stimulant substances were found in her blood. It was also determined that her death was caused by blunt head trauma resulting in brain hemorrhage. Although the defendant H.M. claimed that she gave birth to the baby stillborn, it was understood from the report of the 1st Forensic Medicine Specialization Board that the baby was born alive. Therefore, it was determined that H.M., in order to hide her illegitimate child born after an extramarital affair from her husband, induced the birth of the baby by using a stimulant substance, and then killed her with her hands and left her by the train tracks."
"I DID NOT KILL MY BABY, SHE WAS STILLBORN"
Mother H.M. denied the accusation in her statement included in the indictment. She claimed that her baby suddenly fell to the ground while she was squatting to clean the bathroom, and when she checked if her baby was alive, she was not breathing. H.M. said, "When I realized that she was dead, I wrapped her in a cloth and put her in a bag. Then, I took my 4-year-old daughter with me and left the baby in the bag by the train tracks. I did not kill my baby, she was stillborn. I did not go anywhere out of fear. I also did not know where to bury the baby."
The trial of the imprisoned mother H.M. will begin in the coming days.
