The 'New Generation Journalism Workshop', which discussed the past, present, and future of digital media, was held in Batman. The workshop, organized by the Turkish Internet Journalists Association, was moderated by Dr. Ekrem Teymur, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Haberler.com. Av. Bedia Teymur, the Editor-in-Chief of Haberler.com and Sondakika.com, also participated as a speaker.
In Batman, more than 70 national and local press members from various cities of Turkey participated in the workshop organized jointly by the Turkey Internet Journalists Association and the Batman Governorship.
GOVERNOR CANALP: THOSE WHO ADAPT TO CHANGE WILL WIN The opening speech of the workshop, which was held at Batman University on Friday, May 24, 2024, was given by Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp. Canalp emphasized that technological progress is changing the media sector, like all other sectors, and emphasized that those who adapt to change will succeed.
Okan Geçgel, the President of the Turkey Internet Journalists Association (TİGAD), also emphasized the importance of local press. He said that as an association, they have been working intensively for 3 years to recognize internet media as official media and include it in the press announcement institution, and they have ensured the passage of the law.

Bedia Teymur, the Editor-in-Chief of Haberler.com, Mustafa Biçer, the Istanbul Anatolian Side Regional Director of İhlas News Agency, Gözde Özyürek, the News Anchor of Ülke TV, Uğurcan Gökçe, the News Director of Akit TV, and Dr. Aslı Köseoğlu, a Faculty Member at Atatürk University, gave speeches.
EKREM TEYMUR: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS BOTH A GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND A SERIOUS THREAT FOR THE MEDIA SECTOR Dr. Ekrem Teymur stated that the latest technological developments, especially artificial intelligence, create great opportunities and threats for the media sector, and emphasized the need for a good analysis of these. He also emphasized the importance of preparing solutions in advance for a situation where many media professionals may become unemployed in the near future.
Meryem Nas, the News Anchor of Kanal 7, talked about the stages that TV broadcasting has gone through and emphasized the importance of news on TV.

İlker Yücel, the Editor-in-Chief of Aydınlık Newspaper, talked about the importance of responsible journalism. In his speech, Yücel emphasized the importance of the media fulfilling its public information duty while considering national interests, using the example of some organizations that made publications against public safety and general public interest during the earthquake period in 2023.
Mustafa Biçer, the Istanbul Regional Director of İhlas News Agency, explained in detail the quality elements of agency journalism and how they ensure quality in agency news.
Gözde Özyürek, the News Anchor of Ülke TV, emphasized the importance of effective communication in the media. Özyürek stated that if the language used by individuals and institutions working in media communication is suitable for the target audience and if effective communication is established, the goal can be achieved.
Uğurcan Gökçe, the News Director of Akit TV, talked about social media reporting lines and TV journalism.
Dr. Aslı Köseoğlu, a Faculty Member at Atatürk University, talked about the opportunities and threats awaiting local media in the digital age and emphasized the problems of local media.
In the closing of the workshop, Dr. Ekrem Teymur stated that there is a need for Turkey-based global media organizations to present global problems and issues related to Turkey correctly and effectively to the world public opinion. In this context, he emphasized that the global initiatives of Anadolu Agency and TRT in recent years are the right steps and important.
After the workshop, the participants visited the modern and exemplary library in Batman, which operates on a 24-hour basis. Then, they visited the historical sites in the city center and Hasankeyf and made video recordings.
