Sarıkaya said that PTT officials were indifferent, and he reported the situation to the necessary authorities and stated that he would seek his rights.
Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who lives in Eskişehir, allegedly received a compensation of 700 TL from PTT Cargo for his shipment, which he claims is worth up to 200,000 TL, sent in January. Sarıkaya, who has been experiencing distress for 5 months, stated that he reported the situation to the necessary authorities and will seek his rights.
Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who lives in Eskişehir, turned to the antique business after retiring from journalism and writing. Sarıkaya, who also serves as a collector of written works and an expert witness in antique auctions, wanted to send his 'rubu board' to Istanbul with PTT Cargo in January. However, according to Sarıkaya's claim, his shipment was never delivered to the desired address. Sarıkaya, who left no door unknocked for 5 months to find out where his shipment was, could not obtain any results. Sarıkaya, who stated that he did not receive a satisfactory response from the authorities during this process, claimed that his shipment was lost after 5 months and that PTT deposited 700 TL into his account as compensation. Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who found the amount deposited by PTT for the loss of his antique worth tens of thousands of liras to be ridiculous, complained about the indifference of PTT officials. Sarıkaya, who stated that he reported the situation to the necessary authorities, expressed that he will seek his rights.
"I SENT THE SHIPMENT IN THE FIRST MONTH, NOW WE ARE IN THE FIFTH MONTH"
Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya said, "I have been doing business for about 37 years since I was about 17 years old. I am currently 57 years old. I have always worked with PTT Cargo since I can remember. I preferred it because it has a corporate identity and formality. I sent a shipment in January, now we are in the fifth month, and as a result of the struggle I have been giving for 5 months, my shipment was lost and I became a victim due to the people I could not reach or meet, including PTT General Directorate. I became news when I became a victim, so I felt the need to make a statement in front of the PTT Eskişehir Regional Directorate today in terms of seeking my rights. We have documents that we sent stating that it is lost. Of course, we want such things not to happen, people not to experience victimization or there to be accessibility. What saddens me the most is that there is no one to reach at the PTT General Directorate, regardless of the amount of the goods I lost. Not receiving any messages during the shipment process, not being able to reach the authorities in any way, and not being taken seriously as a citizen really upset me," he said.
"700 TL WAS DEPOSITED INTO MY ACCOUNT AS COMPENSATION"
Halil İbrahim Sarıkaya, who stated that his 'rubu board' is from the Ottoman period and its value is at least 35,000 TL, found the compensation of 700 TL given as compensation to be ridiculous and continued as follows:
"In the Ottoman period, there is something called a 'rubu board' that we occasionally encounter in auctions related to astronomy and the calendar with the sun used by the Ottomans. It is a commodity in the form of a wooden board made on a wooden tree. We sometimes send these to our friends among ourselves, we have situations where we exchange them or they change hands for a fee. We also had a vehicle similar to this in the form of a rubu board. We sent it to our friend in Istanbul for a fee. However, PTT Cargo contacts the other party, they say they did not receive it, they send us a letter months later stating that it is lost and that we have a right to compensation officially. They convey this to the recipient, no information is given to the sender. He called me and said, 'A right to compensation has arisen, you, as the sender, should receive it, can you apply?' I came to the Eskişehir PTT Directorate again, made my application to the cargo service. They told me that I needed to submit a petition and asked for the amount. I said that the minimum amount was 35,000 TL, and that its market value was open-ended, up to 150-200 thousand TL. However, after I wrote the petition, an amount of 700 TL was deposited into my bank account that I provided. In other words, instead of depositing even half of 35,000 TL, they made it as if they were giving alms or mocking. Moreover, in this process, I could not reach anyone, neither the PTT General Directorate, nor AKİM, BİMER, CİMER, nor the PTT Eskişehir Regional Directorate, nor the officials there. No one could be reached in any way. If it is found, that amount will be demanded from me. It is so tragicomic that I wish my product worth 35,000 TL would be found so that I could return the 700 TL they gave me. Would you laugh or cry? If we cannot trust the PTT Directorate today, where will we trust? The situation of private companies' shipments is already known. With the condition that all my legal rights are reserved, I will use my legal rights. I will fight until the end. Maybe I will spend 70,000 TL in return for that 700 TL, but at least I want this to be an example. I want everyone to know how mediocre, how disloyal, and how incompetent PTT cargo is. I invite the General Manager of PTT to resign."
