While high inflation is causing difficult times for citizens, positive statements have come from Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz. Cevdet Yılmaz spoke in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on the last day of the 2025 budget discussions. "WE HAVE GROWN ABOVE THE WORLD AVERAGE"Yılmaz emphasized that Turkey continues to grow and has grown at an average annual rate of about 5.4% from 2002 to 2023, while the average annual growth in the world during the same period was 3.6%. He stated, "We have grown about 1.8 points above the world average. This is a great achievement. Whether you compare it with the past or with the world, the Turkish economy has grown more." "WE HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY CLOSED THE GAP WITH DEVELOPED COUNTRIES"Noting that the average annual growth throughout the Republic's history has been 4.5%, Yılmaz addressed criticisms regarding "growth." He recalled the criticism, "What will happen, you have recorded a growth of 0.9 compared to the past," and stated, "The difference created by that '0.9' annual growth as of this year is 211 billion dollars." Emphasizing the importance of stable growth, Yılmaz said, "Do not underestimate this. Annual increases, even small differences in rates can create very large differences in the long run. Thanks to this, Turkey has significantly closed the gap with developed countries." "TURKEY HAS BEEN GROWING CONTINUOUSLY FOR 17 QUARTERS"Yılmaz stated that they continue to grow steadily in 2024, saying, "On one hand, we are implementing a stability program, trying to ensure price stability, and on the other hand, we are striving to maintain our growth in a balanced and quality manner." He expressed that after growing by 5.1% last year, the Turkish economy recorded a growth of 3.2% in the first three quarters of this year, and continued: "We have continued to grow this year as well. The Turkish economy has been growing uninterruptedly for 14 years, and we expect to complete 2024 at around 3.5% by the end of the year. Our growth in the third quarter is 2.1%. This indicates uninterrupted growth for 17 quarters, and we will continue to grow steadily in the upcoming period." "NEXT YEAR WE WON'T BE TALKING ABOUT INFLATION AS MUCH AS TODAY"Yılmaz stated that the disinflation process began in June, saying: "The process of decline in the inflation rate has started. So far, there has been a 28-point decrease in the inflation rate until November. This is the benefit of the disinflation process we are talking about. We expect the disinflation process to continue in the upcoming period, and hopefully, by this time next year, we will be talking about inflation in the low 20s. Of course, it will still be on our agenda, but we will not be discussing inflation as much as today; we will be discussing other issues. In the following years, with a perspective of 2026-2027, we are determined to bring our country back to single-digit inflation rates, and we will implement this step by step."
