The rival of French President Emmanuel Macron and Mayor of the Lyon region, Gregory Doucet, has been detained on corruption charges.
According to a report by Le Monde, this investigation, which was opened on charges of misusing public resources, had previously come to light with a search conducted at the Lyon City Hall in March 2024, as confirmed by the same source and the Journal du Dimanche (JDD) newspaper.
FIRST STATEMENT FROM HIS SPOKESPERSON
Gregory Doucet's spokesperson stated in a press release, "As part of a normal phase of the investigation, he is giving a statement as someone who represents the community. He is providing a statement to explain how the municipality operates and to defend the legality of the decisions made. He is fully cooperating with the judicial process."
At the beginning of 2024, following a notification from the regional accounts court (CRC), the Lyon prosecutor's office initiated legal proceedings, and on March 13, about twenty police officers conducted a search at the municipality.
The aim of the investigation, according to the news, is to determine whether "the positions of project managers comply with legal regulations, that is, whether these individuals are actually carrying out projects on behalf of the municipality, not on behalf of elected officials."
