The footage of violence against an elderly man at the Private Büyük Marmara Nursing Home, operating in Büyükçekmece, which is said to be from July 2023, has shattered consciences. In the footage, the elderly man can be seen saying, "They have been beating me since this morning," while a staff member is clearly seen wearing gloves and assaulting him.
In the footage reportedly taken at the Özel Büyük Marmara Nursing Home located in the Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul, moments were captured where Erol Konuk, the husband of the nursing home owner, physically assaulted the elderly Abdulkadir Taşar. The footage clearly showed Konuk wearing gloves, shouting at the elderly man, and hitting him.
"THEY'VE BEEN BEATING ME SINCE MORNING"
In the recordings, the elderly man was heard saying, "They've been beating me since morning. They slapped me. My parents never beat me this much."
WORE GLOVES AND BEAT THE ELDERLY MAN
Following these words, Erol Konuk was seen shouting, "Where did they hit you, show me!" and asking a staff member for gloves before physically assaulting the elderly man. These moments stirred the conscience of those who watched.
According to a report by Erdem Atay from Veryansın, it was claimed that Abdulkadir Taşar, who was allegedly subjected to violence, passed away in a hospital in September 2024, but it was alleged that no autopsy was performed after his death.
THREATENED STAFF AS WELL
In response to the allegations, the nursing home management stated that Erol Konuk would not be allowed back into the nursing home.
Additionally, it was alleged that Erol Konuk threatened some staff members who left the nursing home and those who complained about him. According to the allegations, Konuk attempted to intimidate the employees with statements like, "I won't let you stay in Istanbul."
