In the case regarding the death of Abdurrezzak Baysal, who lost his life while receiving treatment after a traffic accident in Gaziantep, the words of a witness nurse sent chills down spines. Nurse Tuğçe Kanpolat stated, "A fight broke out between Aslı and the deceased. I saw Aslı covering the deceased's mouth with the blanket. About an hour later, we learned that the patient had died."
According to claims, Abdurrezzak Baysal, who was taken to the hospital three years ago due to a traffic accident at the Özel Bossan Hospital in Gaziantep, was treated while conscious.
THE INTUBATED PATIENT RECEIVED AN INJECTION AND DIED
It was stated that Baysal, who was only injured in the knee and had a plate inserted in his leg, was in good general health. The patient, who was monitored in the intensive care unit, was regularly visited by his relatives. However, it was claimed that the patient died after an injection of a medication belonging to another patient, which was alleged to be a muscle relaxant, following an argument with a nurse.
THE PATIENT DIED 1 HOUR AFTER THE INJECTION
Both the victim's lawyers and the defendant's lawyers participated in the case. During the hearing, the nurse on duty at the hospital that night was heard as a witness. The witness nurse, Tuğçe Kanpolat, stated, "That day, the on-call doctor told us, 'Don't call me and disturb me; consult everything with the authorized nurse Aslı.' We were on night duty with Nurse Aslı Ersoy and Nurse Mustafa Çelik. We were all attending to a patient. Aslı was the most experienced nurse among us. Mustafa said the victim was restless. Aslı was attending to the intubated patient at that time. Aslı took out a syringe from her pocket and said, 'Take this and do 2 cc.' I don't know if Mustafa did it or not. There was a fight between Aslı and the victim. I saw Nurse Aslı covering the victim's mouth with the blanket on him. About an hour later, we learned that the patient had died," she said.
"THE PATIENT'S CONDITION WAS GOOD"
The victim's lawyer, Ferhat Kurt, asked the witness nurse Tuğçe Kanpolat about the patient's condition, to which the witness nurse replied, "The patient's condition was good. His family was bringing food. I don't know why he was still in the intensive care unit. The doctors decide on that."
The court panel, which listened to the witness, postponed the case to a later date on the grounds that a report was needed to determine whether the death was due to the injection.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The incident occurred at the Özel Bossan Hospital in Gaziantep. According to claims, Abdurrezzak Baysal, who was taken to the hospital three years ago due to a traffic accident, was treated while conscious.
THE ARGUMENT BETWEEN THE NURSE AND THE PATIENT ENDED IN TRAGEDY
Developments that changed the course of the incident emerged after the patient's death. Allegedly, a personal argument occurred between the patient Abdurrezzak Baysal and a nurse on duty in the intensive care unit. Following this argument, the nurse, exceeding her authority and without a doctor's order, injected a muscle relaxant medication identified as belonging to another patient into Abdurrezzak Baysal. In the testimony of another nurse who testified during the trial, it was also stated that the nurse who argued with the patient stuffed a tissue into Baysal's mouth. Shortly after the incident, Abdurrezzak Baysal passed away.
THE TRUTH CAME OUT WITH THE FORENSIC REPORT
Initially, the family was informed that the death occurred due to a "heart attack." Following the suspicious death, the family requested an autopsy. The report from the Forensic Medicine Institution clearly indicated that the medication injected caused Baysal's death. Following this incident, an investigation was initiated, and subsequently, a public lawsuit was filed.
