DEATH TOLL RISING
The Spanish press announced that the number of irregular migrants who died while trying to cross from Morocco to Spain has risen to 88. Authorities stated that since July 30, they have been conducting checks in the city streets to ensure that irregular migrants who entered Ceuta have returned.
WHAT HAPPENED?
More than 800 irregular migrants attempting to swim from the shores of the town of Castillejos in Morocco to Sebta (Ceuta), Spain's territory in North Africa, were intervened.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez reported that the government had mobilized all its resources regarding the incident.
The Spanish government decided to deploy armed forces to the region to ensure security following the increase in irregular migration attempts towards Sebta.
The Spanish government announced that it is estimated that more than 49,000 people have crossed into the city of Sebta by swimming or walking in the last 24 hours.
Regarding the influx of irregular migrants to the city of Sebta, the Spanish Prime Minister said, "What happened is an attack and violation of Spain's territorial integrity."
