The treatment continues at the hospital for 11-year-old M.A.D., who was cornered and brutally beaten in a market in Mersin where he had taken refuge. While the suspect has been detained, the young child, describing the horror he experienced with the words, 'My friends ran away, I was left in the corner. He took the opportunity and beat me,' said of the attacker, 'Let them give him a life sentence forever.'
In a market in the central Akdeniz district of Mersin, an 11-year-old child named M.A.D. was beaten almost to death after a man followed him and cornered him. The suspect, M.E., was taken into custody, and the child, who continues to receive treatment in the hospital, described what he experienced.
M.A.D. (11), who was injured as a result of violence in a market in the Barış neighborhood yesterday, is continuing his treatment in the Brain and Neurosurgery Service of Mersin University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. M.A.D. told an AA correspondent that the incident happened while he was leaving the market with his friends.
"WE WERE LEAVING THE MARKET, HE BEAT ME" Stating that he remembers part of the incident, M.A.D. said:
"We were leaving the market; my friends said 'the crazy man is coming.' The women there said 'run.' They ran, but I couldn't; I was left in the corner. Then the man came and grabbed me. I don't remember the rest. He took the opportunity and caught us there alone and beat me. I want him to be punished."
M.A.D., stating that he feels fine now, said, "Let them give him a life sentence."
"I WANT HIM TO RECEIVE THE NECESSARY PUNISHMENT" Father Mahmut D. also emphasized that he wants the person who did this to his son to receive the necessary punishment. Stating that his son's treatment continues, father Mahmut D. said:
"It's a pity; our children are our future. We hope he gets better. There is a crack in his spinal cord. Edema has formed between the brain and the skin. One tooth was broken, and his cheeks were split from the inside. No human being would do this. May God not test any father with such a situation, and may He not inflict it on anyone. I want him to receive more than the necessary punishment. If it happened to my child today, it could happen to another citizen's child, daughter, or wife tomorrow."
MINISTER GÖKTAŞ CALLED THE FAMILY Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş called the family of M.A.D., who was subjected to violence in the Akdeniz district of Mersin, to wish them a speedy recovery.
In a statement made on her social media account, Minister of Family and Social Services Göktaş said, "I called the family of our child who was subjected to violence in the Akdeniz district of Mersin and conveyed my well-wishes. Immediately after the incident was identified, our teams affiliated with our provincial directorate took action promptly in coordination with police units. The individual who committed the violence was apprehended by police units. A psychosocial support process has been initiated by our expert teams for the family of our child who is continuing treatment in the hospital, and all necessary support services will be meticulously maintained. As a Ministry, we will intervene in the case and follow the legal process to the end to ensure the perpetrator receives the punishment he deserves. In line with our approach that prioritizes the best interests of our children, we will continue to oppose all forms of neglect and violence against our children and resolutely protect their rights and safety."
WHAT HAPPENED? The Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation after images of violence against a child in a market in the Barış neighborhood were shared on social media. The suspect, M.E., who was identified by police teams as having committed the act, was taken into custody.
