In the Bayrampaşa district of Istanbul, in a fight that broke out in front of a bakery over a "what are you looking at" comment, a tradesman who tried to separate the parties lost his life.
According to information obtained around 16:50 yesterday on Tuna Street, İsmetpaşa Neighborhood, Bayrampaşa district, while Çiğdem Canbaz and her daughter were passing in front of a bakery, a "what are you looking at" argument started with Raşit Özbek, who was a customer. The argument ended within a short time, but 25 minutes later, Çiğdem Canbaz came to the scene with her husband, Enis Emre Canbaz, and began to beat the person sitting in front of the bakery. As the fight quickly grew, Raşit Özbek's father, Cemil Özbek, also joined the brawl.
TRADESMAN BECAME THE TARGET OF BULLETS
During the incident, after Enis Emre Canbaz pulled out a gun from his waist, the gun went off in the ensuing scuffle. As a result, the bakery owner, Mehmet Pehlivan, was wounded in the chest. Enis Emre Canbaz fled the scene. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon the report. Teams initiated efforts to apprehend the suspects. After examining the security cameras one by one, the teams took the suspects Enis Emre Canbaz, Raşit Özbek, and his father Cemil Özbek into custody.
Meanwhile, Mehmet Pehlivan, who was injured during the incident, lost his life at the hospital where he was taken.
THEIR CRIMINAL RECORDS ARE QUITE EXTENSIVE
During the examinations at the scene, the teams seized 4 empty casings, 1 live cartridge, and 1 unlicensed pistol. Investigations into the individuals revealed that suspect Raşit Ö. had 9 criminal records, suspect Enis Emre C. had 13, and his wife Çiğdem C. had 3. After their procedures at the police station, the detained suspects Raşit Özbek, Cemil Özbek, and Enis Emre Canbaz were referred to the Istanbul Justice Palace in Çağlayan. An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
HE LOST HIS LIFE WHILE TRYING TO BREAK UP THE FIGHT
A citizen named Nevzat Koç, speaking about the incident, said, "Here, one person looked at another. The woman went and told her husband. Her husband came here. During the fight, Mehmet Abi intervened. When he intervened, the bullet from the gun hit him. That's basically the whole story. I used to buy simit from Mehmet Abi, I was very pleased with him. He meant no harm to anyone. He was injured here and died in the hospital."
Ali Bayrak, a neighborhood resident who witnessed the incident, said, "As soon as he intervened to separate them, we heard a gunshot, and Mehmet went inside. I saw him at the moment he was shot. When he went inside, he had fallen to the ground. The father of the person who said 'you spoke' was also here. He intervened from there and took the gun. That kid also got up, and the girls were screaming."
