Following the escalating diplomatic tensions between the United States and Venezuela in recent weeks, a critical warning has come from Washington. The U.S. Department of State stated that security risks in the country have significantly increased, urging its citizens currently in Venezuela or planning to travel there to "leave the country immediately."
After the rising tensions between the US and Venezuela in recent weeks, Washington has once again issued the highest level travel warning, urging its citizens to "leave the country immediately."
NO DIPLOMATIC PERSONNEL SINCE 2019
The Level 4 'Do Not Travel' warning, shared on the US State Department's website and first announced in May, has been reinstated without any changes following a comprehensive review. The statement reminded that the US withdrew all its diplomatic personnel from Caracas in 2019, indicating that no emergency or routine consular services can be provided to citizens in the country.
WARNING OF "SERIOUS THREATS"
The department emphasized that US citizens remaining in Venezuela are facing serious threats such as "arbitrary detention, torture in custody, terrorist activities, kidnapping, civil unrest, and inadequate healthcare." It highlighted the prevalence of crimes such as murder, armed robbery, and carjacking, stating that security forces are applying "brutal repression" against anti-regime protests.
GROUND OPERATIONS SIGNAL
The warning provided unusual and striking advice for those who must travel:
Prepare a will, hire a professional security team, obtain medical evacuation insurance.
Tensions had further escalated following President Donald Trump's statements on December 3. Trump drew attention to operations against boats allegedly "carrying drugs" around Venezuela, stating, "We will soon start from the ground as well."
