Two Turkish sailors lost their lives in an incident aboard the Malta-flagged cargo ship "Amisos," which was sailing from Germany's Bremen Port to Turkey.
A tragic incident occurred on the Maltese-flagged cargo ship named "Amisos," which was sailing from the Port of Bremen in Germany towards Turkey. Two Turkish seafarers lost their lives after entering a closed section of the ship. One of the deceased was identified as Fourth Captain Suat Arı, from the Gönen district of Balıkesir.
POSSIBILITY OF OXYGEN DEPRIVATION BEING INVESTIGATED
According to information obtained; the ship's Second Captain Osman Mete Kuru and Fourth Captain Suat Arı entered a closed section of the ship for inspection or routine maintenance. It is suspected that the two seafarers died due to lack of oxygen in that area. It has been reported that the exact cause of death will be clarified after autopsies are performed.
JUDICIAL INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED IN ITALY
Following the incident, the cargo ship was placed under administrative custody by judicial authorities in Italy. Italian officials have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine whether closed space safety procedures were followed and if any negligence was involved in the incident.
