Sad news came from world-renowned Nepali climber Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja. It was announced that Purja, who went missing after an avalanche during a climb on Broad Peak in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, lost his life.

Elite Exped, which conducted Purja's expedition organization, confirmed the death of the 43-year-old climber in a statement on its social media account.
In the statement, it was noted that Purja lost his life in the avalanche at Broad Peak, while it was stated that the other climbers in the expedition team could not be rescued. The company did not share comprehensive information about the details of the incident.
10 CLIMBERS LOST THEIR LIVES
Purja and nine climbers accompanying him had gone missing after the avalanche at Broad Peak on Thursday.
According to information from officials, the avalanche occurred around noon on Thursday. In the disaster, a total of 10 people lost their lives, including six Nepali citizens, as well as one climber each from Pakistan, Oman, the USA, and China.
Broad Peak, located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan and reaching a height of 8,051 meters, is known as the world's 12th highest mountain. The mountain is also considered one of the most challenging peaks for climbers due to its harsh conditions and technical climbing routes.

Purja had gained worldwide recognition with his extraordinary climbs in 2019. The Nepali climber set a record by climbing the world's 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in just six months.
Purja, a former Gurkha and British Special Forces member, had his extraordinary journey later turned into a documentary.
HIS FAME SPREAD WORLDWIDE WITH THE NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY
The documentary titled "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible," telling the story of Purja's struggle to complete the 14 peaks, was released on Netflix in 2021.
Following the documentary, Purja became one of the names recognized not only in mountaineering circles but also by a wide audience worldwide.
