36-year-old Tarık Bakır, who lives in Antalya, opened the door of his home to his 20-year-old friend who was living on the street with his grandmother. The friend, wanting to do a good deed, disappeared with the electric bicycle given to him and some electronic items from Bakır's house, leaving Bakır's 87-year-old grandmother behind to take care of his affairs.
36-year-old Tarık Bakır, living in the Erenköy neighborhood of the Kepez district in Antalya, opened his home to his friend Ümit B., whom he has known for about 20 years, after learning that his 87-year-old grandmother, who has Alzheimer's, was left on the street.
LEFT HIS GRANDMOTHER AND DISAPPEARED
Ümit B., who stayed here for about 20 days, asked Bakır for his electric bicycle, saying he had errands to run in the city center regarding his grandmother. Wanting to help the elderly woman so she wouldn't suffer, Bakır handed over his own electric bicycle to Ümit B. After leaving his grandmother at Tarık Bakır's house, Ümit B. disappeared, taking not only the bicycle but also some electronic items from the house.
HAS THROAT CANCER AND 87% DISABILITY REPORT
Tarık Bakır, who stated that he has throat cancer and an 87% disability report, said he has not been able to reach his friend for about a week and that he has taken care of the elderly woman with Alzheimer's he left behind, but he is struggling to do so. Bakır, who went to the police station to file a complaint against his friend Ümit B., expressed that he is waiting for the necessary people and authorities to help the elderly woman who has been abandoned and victimized, saying, "Ümit is a person I have known for 20 years; he said they were left on the street with his grandmother. I opened my home to help. I gave him the key to my electric bicycle so that the victimization on the street would end and my friend wouldn't victimize his grandmother. He said he had things to take care of, so I let him go quickly to take care of it and come back to his aunt. The friend took the electronic items from the house along with the electric bicycle and disappeared."
"WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO"
Bakır, who said he filed a complaint at the police station about Ümit B., who disappeared after leaving his grandmother behind and cannot be reached, stated, "I waited a few days thinking he would return. But our aunt has Alzheimer's, and she is in a victimized situation. No one from her family is looking after her, and we don't know what to do. We are trying to do everything we can, but someone from the authorities or her family who hears this news should take care of our aunt. Our ability to care is limited because I am also 87% disabled and have throat cancer. I have my own victimizations, and I am ready to do everything I can, but my options are limited. Our aunt really needs good care," he expressed.
"SHE NEEDS REGULAR CARE"
Bakır, who said he has been taking care of the elderly woman's needs along with his own and his mother's since his friend left a week ago, stated, "Since the grandson left, we have had to take care of her for 6-7 days. We bring her meals morning and evening, but how much can we care for her? After all, this woman has Alzheimer's and is left alone at home. There is an electric heater in the house; we are afraid she might burn herself or something might happen to her. We don't know if she has the medications she regularly uses or not. She has a serious need for care, and we currently cannot provide that," he said.
Meanwhile, it was learned that Tarık Bakır's electric bicycle was found and returned by the police, while search efforts for Ümit B., who disappeared after leaving his grandmother at his friend's house, are ongoing.
