The young footballer was reported to have attempted to swim illegally from the city of Fnideq to Spain's Ceuta during the migration crisis on Europe's southern border. Ben Omar, who played for Moghreb Atlético de Tanger, was swept away by a strong current while trying to swim across the border. According to reports in the local press, the young athlete, unable to resist the current, lost her life.
