A forest fire caused by sparks from a welding machine in Menteşe district of Muğla was brought under control by intensive intervention of the teams before it reached Akyaka and Gökova. While approximately 5 hectares of area were damaged, one person has been detained in connection with the incident, and cooling efforts continue in the region.
It was determined that the fire that started in an agricultural area and spread to a forested area in the Menteşe district of Muğla was caused by a welding machine. One suspect has been detained, and cooling efforts are ongoing in the area that has been brought under control.
A DISASTER NARROWLY AVERTED
Sparks from a welding machine during work in an agricultural area in Yenice Neighborhood, Menteşe district of Muğla, jumped to the forested area due to the wind. The fire, which started about 3-4 kilometers north of the Gulf of Gökova and posed a risk of spreading toward Sakar Tepe, Gökova, and Akyaka due to the wind, caused great panic in the region.
INTERVENTION WITH A MASSIVE TEAM
As the flames threatened the Akyaka and Gökova regions, a massive operation was launched under the coordination of the General Directorate of Forestry. The fire was fought from air and ground with 4 planes, 10 helicopters, 26 water tankers, 9 water trucks, 3 construction machines, and 228 personnel. Thanks to the intense efforts of the teams, the flames were brought under control before reaching residential areas.
1 SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
One suspect, identified as causing the fire that damaged a total area of 5 hectares, half forest and half agricultural land, has been detained. While cooling efforts continue in the area where the fire has been completely brought under control, a judicial investigation into the incident is ongoing.
